Coastal Optical Systems
Coastal Optical Systems, Inc., was founded in 1991 in West Palm Beach by Jay Kumler, Marc Neer, George Fabich and Wilhelm Geissler. The new company leveraged their combined experience from Perkin Elmer, Zygo Corporation, Ball Aerospace and United Technologies Optical Systems (UTOS) to form a unique company completely focused on the design and manufacture of custom lens assemblies.
The company was purchased in 2002 by JENOPTIK and in 2009 was renamed to JENOPTIK Optical Systems, Inc.
1991 Coastal Optical Systems incorporates in Florida.
1993 Coastal becomes qualified vendor for Lockheed Martin and delivers aspheric lenses for TADS/PNVS.
1998 Coastal builds the AOMS interferometer for protein crystal growth experiement on the Space Shuttle.
1999 Coastal designs, builds and delivers first custom 3D projection lenses for two major theme parks.
2000 Coastal signs long term supply agreements with OEM’s in biomedical imaging and semiconductor industries.
Coastal merges with JENOPTIK Laser, Optik Systeme and becomes a 100% owned US subsidiary.
2003 Coastal starts period of rapid growth and secures first production contract in excess of $1 million.
Forges close working relationship with sister company Liebmann Optical Company.
2005 Coastal continues investment in metrology and CNC manufacturing for the West Palm Beach facility.
2006 Coastal begins distribution of JENOPTIK standard products in USA including metrology optics and
2007 ISO 9001:2000 certification received.
Coastal reaches $10 million in annual sales for the first time.
2009 Coastal Optical Systems and Liebmann Optical Company merge to form JENOPTIK Optical Systems, Inc.
