JENOPTIK Optical Systems delivers lens assemblies and optical elements to a variety of markets with applications that require performance or configuration beyond that available from commercially available optics. Sales are currently distributed equally between each of the following markets.

Aerospace & Defense

Aerospace and Defense

Coastal Optical's founders had roots in the Aerospace and Defense. Before and since the acquisition by JENOPTIK in 2002, the company has participated on defense and aerospace projects with Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Boeing, Ball Aerospace and United Technologies among others. JENOPTIK Optical Systems, Inc. manufactured lenses have been used in missile tracking systems, combat aircraft and other defense applications.

Life Science Research and Biophotonics

jenoptik-lens JENOPTIK Optical Systems, Inc. supplies high speed, large format custom objectives for OEMs in Life Science Research.

Light starved techniques such as bioluminescence or chemoluminescence can benefit from custom lenses. Research instruments requiring very low optical distortion or low system fluorescence can also necessitate custom lenses to meet the required performance.

Astronomical Research

Optics from the Jupiter facility can be found at the most renowned space research facilities including optics on six different space flight instruments.

Projects have included SAC-C MMRS, MightySAT HSI , JPL Near Earth Asteroid Tracking (NEAT) Telescope and imaging spectrographs for SOAR (Cerro Pachon, Chile), Hobby-Eberly Telescope, Lowell Observatory and the University of Washington.

We have worked closely with NASA on several projects including providing optics on three second generation instruments for the Hubble Space Telescope including STIS, NICMOS, and ACS.

JENOPTIK Optical Systems is currently working on two projects for the James Webb Space Telescope.

Digital Imaging and Projection

CoastalOpt® projection lenses are known throughout the digital imaging industry for wide angle, large aperture systems for domed theaters, 3D theaters and simulators. In 1998, the Company supplied the projection optics to Animal Kingdom's Tree of Life 3D theater, Aladdin and "Fantasmic Florida" at MGM Studios theme park. Since that time, we have supplied many entertainment projects in the United States, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, Japan and China.

Custom wide angle and curved surface lenses have been developed for systems ranging from consumer digital desktop to the largest staging and cinema projectors.

Machine Vision and Metrology

By integrating optical design, mechanical design and optical manufacturing under one roof, JENOPTIK OS, Inc. brings difficult, high-end, and small volume lens solutions to the market faster than the competition.

In-house capabilities for design along with high speed polishing, aspheric polishing, and extensive optical metrology allow proving designs quickly and transitioning to production volumes. We currently supply custom OEM inspection & metrology lenses for customers in the semiconductor manufacturing and and printed circuit board markets.
