SPIE has announced 67 new SPIE Fellows and Jay Kumler, President of Jenoptik Optical Systems, Inc., has been honored in the 2011 class.
Fellows are selected by the SPIE Board of Directors, and candidates must distinguish themselves in three areas including: technical accomplishment, service to the general optical community and service to SPIE. The electing body cited "achievements in optical design and fabrication" in electing Jay a SPIE Fellow (SPIE's full press release can be downloaded here).
Since 1955, the Society has named more than 800 SPIE members as Fellows. Join us in congratulating Jay and the rest of the 2011 honorees. The complete list of 2011 honorees is at SPIE.org.
SPIE in the Optical Community
SPIE is the international society for optics and photonics founded in 1955 to advance light-based technologies. Serving more than 180,000 constituents from 168 countries, the Society advances emerging technologies through interdisciplinary information exchange, continuing education, publications, patent precedent, and career and professional growth. SPIE annually organizes and sponsors approximately 25 major technical forums, exhibitions, and education programs in North America, Europe, Asia, and the South Pacific. In 2009, the Society provided more than $2 million in support of scholarships, grants, and other education programs around the world.
