Coastal Optical Systems adds in-house coating

Coastal Optical Systems has completed integration of in-house coating capabilities in it’s West Palm Beach facility with the installation of an 850 mm coating chamber.

Better support for OEM customers

"This was the next natural step in the growth of Coastal", says Jay Kumler, president of Coastal. "With the growth in serial production, sub-contracting coatings had become a logistical burden on several serial production projects. With the new chamber, we can meet common ongoing coating requirements in-house and still work with specialty coating houses to meet challenging requirements from customers."

Complements capabilities

The ion-assist chamber manufactured by Tecport Optics, Inc (Orlando, FL), was delivered in February and is configured for 50 mm to 150 mm diameter elements. The chamber's configuration complements capabilities available through sister company Liebmann Optical which specializes in small and micro-lenses (2 mm - 75 mm ø).

Quality Assurance considerations

A PerkinElmer Lambda 950 Spectrophotometer (175nm – 3300 nm) has been added for coating analysis.
